When Gamers desperately searched for the new PS5 or Xbox on major retail sites, they were often met with serious disappointment. Bots swept in and snapped up the limited offerings in seconds. These “inventory grabbers” shut out fans who just wanted a new console.
GameFly, the go-to subscription service for console video games, gave its members a real alternative. It offered its members special bundles that included consoles, controllers and games, plus a year’s subscription to GameFly at discounted prices. These PS5 and Xbox drops sold out in under an hour as word spread among excited members; one recent drop created such a buzz, GameFly became a trending US topic on Twitter.
“We’re looking out for our members, who love games as much as we do,” says Joe Slepski, Gamefly’s marketing director. “We want to reward our members by giving them access to the next-gen consoles. We’re planning to continue this, as we get more consoles from manufacturers.”
These console drops are just one part of GameFly’s recent transformation. GameFly has revamped its online store and other aspects of the venerable game subscription’s business. In addition to offering a wide selection of used games, GameFly is now offering new games, gaming accessories, and collectables from brands like FUNKO, ReAction, and Kotobukiya. In the coming months, GameFly will be expanding its subscription plans so that more gamers can find a plan that works best for them. For now, members can rest easy that if GameFly secures consoles from the manufacturers, they will continue giving members exclusive access.
“GameFly is committed to the gamers who want to access the things that make them happy,” says GameFly President Tim Hinsley. “These console drops are proof of our commitment to our members.”
